Geotechnical/Structural Foundation Engineer

Overview

Geotechnical/Structural Foundation Engineer responsible for performing special inspections in support of: borings, test pits, earth retaining structures (temporary and permanent), soil and rock inspection, deep foundation inspection, construction plan and specification adherence, and field coordination with subconsultants. The engineer should also be able to complete office engineering support when closing out a project or to assist in the preparation of comprehensive project reports.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of basic software tools including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of basic lab and field equipment for making evaluations of soil conditions.
  • Ability to perform geotechnical field investigations and construction observations.
  • Prepare daily detailed site inspection reports based on field operations completed.
  • Perform technical research and utilize computers in developing solutions to engineering problems including geotechnical evaluations to prepare calculation documents, detailed geotechnical reports, analysis of geotechnical samples, field testing of soils, and design support.
  • Interact with other disciplines in MFS, clients, contractors and equipment vendors.
  • Develop a familiarity with regulations governing the implementation and operations of related systems.
  • Develop a familiarity with field testing and data collection requirement.
  • Work with several other team members including engineering professionals, designers and technicians, permit specialists, planners, CAD and graphic specialists, architects, construction management specialists, and several other disciplines.
  • Prepare technical reports, write memos, make recommendations, and convey engineering solutions/recommendations.

Experience

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in analysis of below grade walls, retaining structures, and foundations
  • Experience in conducting construction special inspections
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Must have some knowledge in LRFD/ASD design and complex structural analysis software including RISA, DeepXcav, and L-pile
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers, clients, and contractors
  • Must have strong design skills
  • Valid driver’s license is required

Preferences

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering is a plus
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD software is a plus
