Survey Party Chief

Overview

This position is based in our South Plainfield, NJ/New York offices, and would perform field surveys throughout the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and beyond. The Party Chief would work solo and/or with an instrument operator. Experience with Leica data collection software is required, including running the data collector, along with downloading/uploading files in accordance with company procedures. Knowledge and ability to collect data in a manner acceptable for field to finish procedures is highly desirable. Successful candidate must have valid driver's license and be physically capable and willing to perform full day outdoor work in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Run and supervise a one or two man field crew.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches and photos.
  • Collect and code data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, wetlands, other types of surveys.
  • Perform construction layout.
  • Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS.
  • Perform daily downloads of data collector files.
  • Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Interface and report to MFS' Principal Land Surveyor or project managers as assigned to a project.

As a Surveyor assigned to a field position you will be expected to perform work year round, in varying weather conditions that may be wet, cold or hot. You will have to carry equipment and lift heavy objects. You may be required to work nights and weekends. MFS provides survey services in NJ, NY and PA, and you will be expected to work in all three states, and other locations as well.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Party Chief.
  • Experience with Leica robotic total stations.
  • Wide range of experience in topographic/boundary survey and construction layout.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to react positively to difficult project assignments and/or client representatives.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, yet follow defined procedures within reason.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel within NJ and adjoining states.

Preferences

  • Experience with laser scanning.
  • Structural monitoring experience.
  • Ability to be the lead party chief on large multi crew projects.
