Survey Party Chief

Overview

This position is based in our South Plainfield, NJ office and would perform field surveys throughout the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and beyond. Successful candidate must have valid driver’s license and must be physically capable and willing to work outdoors for the full day, in any environment/condition, at any time of day, throughout the entire year, at any location served (now or in the future) by MFS. The Party Chief would work solo and/or with an instrument operator. Experience with Leica data collection software is required, including running the data collector, along with downloading/uploading files in accordance with company procedures. Knowledge and ability to collect data in a manner acceptable for field to finish procedures is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Run and supervise a one or two man field crew.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, and photos.
  • Collect and code data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, wetlands, and other types of surveys.
  • Perform construction layout.
  • Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS.
  • Perform daily downloads of data collector files.
  • Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Interface and report to MFS’ Principal Land Surveyor or project managers as assigned to a project.

  • Must be able to drive to job sites and comfortably over-see projects at those job site which includes mobility once at the job-site


Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a party chief.
  • Experience with Leica robotic total stations.
  • Wide range of experience in topographic/boundary survey and construction layout.
  • Ability to react positively to difficult project assignments and/or client representatives.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, yet follow defined procedures within reason.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel within NJ and adjoining states.

Preferences

  • Experience with laser scanning.
  • Structural monitoring experience.
  • Ability to be the lead party chief on large multi crew projects.
