Junior Accountant

South Plainfield, New Jersey

Overview

The Junior Accountant is responsible for the processing of expense reporting, credit card administration, required monthly accruals, and general ledger account data input. This position will provide support to the Controller and senior members of the department as needed. Additional responsibilities and requests may be required as departmental needs arise and as determined by management. This position reports to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Controller and senior accountants with the day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Accounting Department
  • Data entry and reconciliation on a rolling basis
  • Reconcile general ledger for various accounts as assigned
  • Monthly credit card reconciliations
  • Assist in the annual audit by gathering support requested by the auditors
  • Work closely with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and provide coverage overlap when needed
  • Assist with tax legislation research
  • Assist senior personnel with research into accounting related discrepancies
  • Assist with posting of journal entries
  • Adhere to accounting procedures
  • Coordinate and work with accounting staff including branch offices
  • Some local travel required

  • Occasionally required to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
  • 2-3 years’ related experience
  • Working knowledge of sales and use tax
  • Competent in advanced arithmetic
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous work experience in a deadline driven environment
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Driver’s license and reliable means of transportation
  • Background check

Preferences

  • Experience with Deltek Vision Software
  • A/E/C Experience
  • Payroll experience
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Spanish is a plus, but is not required
