Project Overview

MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC provided professional land surveying services for the Hoboken TAP Grant Project on Willow Ave in Hoboken, Hudson County, NJ. The project involved a field survey of the corridor and the creation of 1” = 30’ topographic mapping with 1’ contours.

Project Details

Survey activities included preparing a survey control report, conducting a topographic survey, preparing base maps, and performing subsurface utility engineering. The mapping limits extended from the Hoboken/Weehawken border to 150’ south of Willow Ave and 11th St, including portions of side streets and the 14th St viaduct.

MFS established survey control in accordance with NJDOT standards, using GNSS RTN and Leica SmartNet to achieve high accuracy. A survey control report, signed by an NJ Licensed Surveyor, detailed computations, coordinates, elevations, and diagrams.

The topographic survey collected cross-section data at 50’ intervals, including key breakline features, ADA ramps, utility hardware, ROW evidence, and sanitary structures. A terrestrial laser scan captured overhead wire data at eight intersections, registering point clouds to create a unified dataset.

Base maps were prepared using tax maps, NJGIN, and field evidence. Planimetric features and a Digital Terrain Model were drafted in MicroStation V8i/InRoads in accordance with NJDOT specifications.

Subsurface utility engineering involved 28 test holes installed by a subcontractor. MFS staked locations, obtained permits, coordinated traffic control, and surveyed utility reference marks, utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and M-Scoping technology. Data was incorporated into final base mapping to support project development.
