Project Details

MFS’s geotechnical team coordinated with our in-house drilling agency to complete six subsurface investigative borings and provided field oversight during the field investigation. Each boring was completed to a termination depth of 60 feet below grade with a CME-45B trailer mounted drill rig. Samples were obtained via Standard Penetration Test, and the borings were advanced using hollow stem augers and mud rotary techniques. Upon completion of the field investigation, MFS contracted and coordinated with a geotechnical testing laboratory to carry out a testing program.

Following the subsurface investigation, MFS’s geotechnical division compiled the results of subsurface investigation and laboratory testing into a detailed geotechnical engineering report. The geotechnical engineering report provided the client with design and construction recommendations for the proposed reconstructed bridge foundations for the bridge abutments, piers, and wingwalls in accordance with the NYSDOT Bridge Manual. MFS offered a unique deep foundation solution to allow the individual bridge components to work together with limited differential settlement. In addition, MFS detailed recommendations for drainage considerations, pile load testing, and a monitoring program during the bridge construction.
