Mercer County Board of Social Services Inspection

Trenton, NJ

Project Overview

MFS Engineers & Surveyors provided professional structural engineering and inspection services for the Mercer County Board of Social Services (MCBOSS). The structural inspection was located in an approximately 100-year-old, 105,000 sq.-ft. building that was previously utilized as a factory and was later retrofitted to be converted into office space in the 1980’s. An incident had occurred at the MCBOSS building, where an old pipe hanger and connection assembly fell and penetrated through the drop ceiling. To ensure safe working conditions for the MCBOSS employees, the client requested an independent structural inspection to be performed.

Project Details

MFS’ structural engineering team removed the drop ceiling tiles within the affected area and conducted a visual inspection to document the existing structural condition of the exposed structural framing elements, including any visible beams and girders, columns, bearing walls, and connections. MFS photo documented the inspected areas noting any cracking or deterioration observed and compiling all the observations obtained during the inspection into a Structural Inspection Report, which included the determination of the overall building structural integrity, detailed summary of findings with a supplemental photo documentation report, conclusions, and structural recommendations to ensure safe working conditions and prolonged service life of the building.
