NCDPW Cedarhurst Pump Station

NCDPW Cedarhurst Pump Station
  • Owner: Nassau County Department of Public Works
  • Completed: February 2021
  • Services: Structural Engineering

MFS's Structural Engineering Team provided the structural design of the 30-ft by 25-ft footprint by 22-ft deep underground reinforced concrete structure resulting in a stormwater pump station designed to accept flow from four existing pipes and push flow out to a new stormwater outfall which discharges into the Canal. Additionally, MFS provided the structural foundation design of the pre-cast concrete control building, directly adjacent to the stormwater pump station, which houses an 820-gallon diesel fuel tank and generator that provides the necessary power for the pump station. MFS worked closely with the Project Team’s Mechanical Engineer to determine locations of equipment, piping penetrations, floor elevations, and site restrictions.

MFS performed all necessary structural design calculations for use in preparing the Final Construction Document set, including construction notes, structural plans, sections and details as necessary to adequately depict what structural work would be required. The structural design calculations included a 3-D finite element model to determine the global structural behavior of the pump station experiencing a combination of dead, earth, live, wind, snow, and seismic loads in accordance with the governing building code.
