Project Overview

MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyor, DPC provided professional surveying and mapping services for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority under contract NJTA OPS T4014. This project required the collection of detailed geospatial data and the preparation of comprehensive mapping and survey deliverables to NJTA standards. The mapping was completed at a scale of 1"=50' with a 2-foot contour interval. The team conducted topographic surveys, base line surveys, and developed profile and cross sections for highways throughout the project area.

Project Details

Using high-accuracy aerial LiDAR and stereo photogrammetry techniques, MFS captured over 418 models to create a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), which supported the generation of 2-foot contours and detailed planimetric mapping. The firm utilized public LiDAR data (QL2 quality level), supplemented by Keystone-provided new LiDAR data where necessary. Orthophotography was produced from imagery dated April 20, 2024, using a 6.0 cm ground sample distance (GSD), and all data were georeferenced to NAD 83 horizontal and NAVD 88 vertical datums, in New Jersey State Plane Coordinates.

MFS prepared Right-of-Way (ROW) maps in accordance with NJ Map Filing Law, including ETM (Existing Title Map), GPPM (General Property Parcel Map), and IPM (Individual Parcel Map) formats, complete with parcel descriptions. All mapping and deliverables were provided in MicroStation V8i format, adhering to NJTA’s 3" CADD specifications, with Atlas edit rotations applied as required.

The final deliverables included both 2D and 3D mapping products, and although GIS deliverables were not required, MFS ensured the output met all offline technology and translation specifications. The project site was treated as “new” for mapping purposes, and all visible surface features—including pavement markings and parking striping—were included in the final maps. The project was completed with attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring compliance with NJTA standards and client expectations.
