Project Details

The North/West Battery Park City Resiliency Project is a resiliency project that the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) has advanced to protect Battery Park City from future storm surges and sea-level rise. The project contemplates the creation of an integrated coastal flood risk management system from 1st Place, north along the Battery Park City Esplanade, across to the east side of West Street/ Route 9A and terminate above Chambers Street at a high point on Greenwich Street. The project aims to reduce the risks associated with storm surge and sea level rise.

MFS’s structural team provided structural engineering design calculations, preparing design sketches, and performing QAQC review of calculations prepared by Arcadis. Supported projects included design of retaining walls, design of platform modification, analysis and load rating of existing platforms, analysis of precast concrete sheet piles, analysis of steel sheet piles with concrete caps in flood conditions, exterior stairs design, analysis of new trellis and miscellaneous landscaping features.
