NYCEDC Bathgate Campus Building Survey

Project Overview

MFS Consulting Engineers & Surveyors, DPC provided professional land surveying services for the New York Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) Bathgate Floor Plan Surveys project in the Borough of the Bronx, New York. The project required floor plan surveys of six warehouse sites to assist with planning and design efforts.

Project Details

MFS’s survey team conducted High-Definition Laser Scanning to collect precise interior floor and wall data for each warehouse structure. This process utilized a Leica BLK2GO handheld Imaging LIDAR laser scanner, which allowed for real-time image capture and dimensionally accurate point cloud data collection. The scanner employed SLAM technology, enabling seamless movement through doors, rooms, and stairwells while recording the spatial trajectory.

Each warehouse structure had two floors, with the first floor primarily consisting of open storage space, multi-level pallet racking, and active forklift operations, while the second floor contained office spaces. The survey team performed data collection during typical working hours with minimal disruption to warehouse operations.

The laser scanning process generated a comprehensive 3D database, allowing for the extraction of precise measurements from the collected point cloud data. The registered data was then used to create 2D dimensional plans. Final deliverables included digital delivery in MicroStation or AutoCAD, with Autodesk Civil 3D electronic files containing 2D line work depicting all interior walls. While individual wall segments were dimensioned, overall interior building lines were dimensioned without accounting for unknown wall thicknesses.

Additionally, project mapping was delivered in hardcopy format on an approved project title block, signed, and sealed by an MFS licensed surveyor.
