PSEGLI – 2H Far Rockaway Substation – 2AR Arverne Substation

Project Overview

MFS Engineers & Surveyors was contracted by POWER Engineers, Inc. to provide professional land survey services in support of the Public Service Electric and Gas – Long Island (PSEGLI) 2H Far Rockaway to 2AR Rockaway Beach project.

Project Details

The project consisted of a new underground 33kV transmission circuit along the 2.3 mile 2H Far Rockaway Substation to the 2AR Arverne Substation route. The purpose of the project was to replace aging infrastructure to improve reliability of the electrical supply to the Rockaway Peninsula and enhance the N-1-1 performance criteria.

MFS located surface utility structures such as manholes, catch basins, headwalls, valve covers, chambers, boxes, utility/light poles, hydrants, utility mark out, etc., elevations of manhole rims and catch basin grates were depicted. For storm drains and sanitary sewers MFS obtained measurements to determine inverts and pipe sizes at accessible manholes/catch basins. All measurements were obtained from street level.

MFS determined pipe size and invert at accessible sanitary and storm structures. MFS contacted utility companies to request copies of record utility maps and drawings. The record utility maps and drawings were utilized along with the surveyed locations of surface utility structures to depict the locations of the subsurface utilities.

MFS contacted the Borough of Queens Topographic Bureau to request Section maps of the project area. MFS performed an online search on the NYC Planning Street Maps website to obtain any street alteration map within the project area. MFS searched the NYC DOF Digital Tax Map for current tax lot information within the project area. MFS plotted the sections maps, alteration maps and tax maps and produce the approximate location of the street right-of-way lines based on reconciling the record map information with the surveyed features (curb lines, building lines, monuments, and property markers).
